trevor Jones - choral director


Trevor is a highly regarded choral director who brings to his conducting a deep knowledge of the choral repertoire, a strong understanding of teaching vocal technique in the choral rehearsal and a sense of enjoyment and energy for all participants.

In 2008 Trevor formed Choristry (formerly DeChorum) with the express purpose of performing beautiful choral music to the highest standard. Since this time the group has performed their own concert series as well as performances at Melbourne University graduation ceremonies; for the Australia Day celebrations in Federation Square, Melbourne; and for services in St Paul’s Cathedral, Melbourne.  Choristry were a guest performing choir at Choralfest 2010 in Port Macquarie and Festival of Voices in Hobart in 2012.

Choristry’s repertoire is diverse, including works by Bach (Cantata 140, Magnificat), Berlioz (L’Enfance du Christ), Britten (St Nicolas), Dvorak (Stabat Mater), Mozart (Mass in C minor), Haydn (Te Deum), Vivaldi (Magnificat), Grandage (Shore, Wheatbelt, Three Australian Bush Songs), Leek (Great Southern Spirits), Walker (Dusk, Midwinter, The Pool), Vaughan Williams (Three Shakespeare Songs, Serenade to Music, In Windsor Forest), Janequin (Les chant des oyseaux), Monteverdi (Lamento d’Arianna), Lauridsen (Fire Madrigals, O Magnum Mysterium, O Nata Lux), Whitacre (Lux Aurumque, When David Heard), Thompson (Alleluia) and Trevor Jones (Suite from As You Like It, Christmas Motets)

Trevor was conductor of the Monash University Choral Society from 1999 - 2005. He was Deputy Artistic Director of the Australian Boys Choir from 1999 - 2002. Trevor conducted the Victorian Secondary Student’s Honour Choir in 2005. He has been National President of the Australian National Choral Association (ANCA) and has presented at workshops on choral conducting in schools and at conferences around Australia.
